Disclaimer: A Smart Guess, Not a Guarantee
Is the Snowday snow day calculator official? No — it is a free, instant, no sign-up estimate built from public Open-Meteo forecast data, with no affiliation to any school district, the National Weather Service, or Open-Meteo. Fun estimate only — always follow your school district’s official announcements.
What the number is
The bottom line: a percent chance produced by a documented formula applied to a public forecast — opinionated weather math, not a prediction market.
The score applies published weights (see How it works) to hourly forecast data. Forecasts themselves carry uncertainty, and closure decisions are made by people weighing factors no formula can see — bus fleets, road-crew schedules, and one icy hill. A 90% score can still end in a regular school day, and a 25% day can end in closure.
Who we are not
The bottom line: not your district, not the NWS, not Open-Meteo — just a calculator.
- Not affiliated with any school district or government agency. Official closure announcements come from your district and local media.
- Not a weather service. For warnings and advisories, go to weather.gov.
- Not the data provider. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0); snowfall normals from NOAA/NCEI, labeled as approximations.
Use it responsibly
The bottom line: plan childcare and homework as if school is open until your district says otherwise.
Do not skip homework, skip work, or book the sledding hill on the strength of a percentage. The site and its scores are provided as-is without warranty; the operators are not liable for choices made based on them. Spot an error? Tell us — fact-level fixes usually ship within days.
